Arc Fault Detection Device (AFDD), also known as an arc fault breaker, is an advanced electrical safety device designed to specifically identify electrical arc faults within a circuit. These arc faults occur when unintended electrical current flows across an air gap between conductors, posing a potential risk of electrical fires. The AFDD is capable of detecting these arc faults and promptly interrupting the circuit to prevent fire hazards. It provides an additional layer of protection against electrical fires by detecting and responding to arc faults, complementing the functions of traditional overcurrent protection devices such as MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and RCDs (Residual Current Devices). AFDDs are engineered to enhance electrical safety in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, effectively reducing the risk of electrical fires caused by arc faults.
